Life gets hard for everyone at some point in life. Obstacles come your way and sometimes you have a choice, and sometimes you don't. When you're faced with a large decision in life no matter how easy it may seem, the anxiety that you're making the wrong choice always finds its way in. So what do you do?
Recently I've been struggling with some large decisions that could ultimately affect the rest of my life. I'm talking the heavy hitting decisions that will decide who I surround myself with and where I'm headed. I could choose to stay put and not change anything, or I could completely alter the path of my life.
You may be reading this and thinking about something in your life that you are also struggling with. A job, a relationship, or even financial issues that plague your waking thoughts and take over your dreams at night. All of us can agree that it down right sucks. It sucks to be forced to make a move, change your life and head in a different direction - especially when the option to be complacent is there. You know what is more troubling to me though? A life where I settle for less.
I think my biggest fear in life is to have shorted myself. To have not become more than I could've been. To not have fulfilled my calling from God and regretted not taking a chance. You know what I'm praying on right now? Read this aloud to yourself:
"God I pray that you use me and push me to be everything you created me to be. I pray that you never let me settle and make me uncomfortable. I pray for your guidance to know when to make a change and wisdom to know where to go. I pray that you use me Lord for everything you created me to be. In Jesus name, Amen."
- Sincerely, me.
That is what I pray nearly everyday. I've actually been praying this for some time now and guess what? God is doing exactly what I asked Him. I prayed that I would be pushed to be the best that I can be and He is doing just that. I'm faced with a decision that will ultimately change my future. He has shown me what is good and true, but I'm refusing to listen because choosing good means traveling down a difficult road.
You probably are thinking the same thing. "I know what I'm supposed to do, but what if it backfires? What if I make the wrong decision? What if it is hard? What if it hurts?" I can promise you one thing, a walk with God is life giving, but it ain't easy. You can either live an easy comfortable life or choose the unbeaten path towards the Lord. Choose to pick up your cross and continue on a fulfilling life, leaving your old self behind. Leaving comfort behind.
Right now I dare you to imagine the life you want to live. Got it? Okay, now do you think you are setting yourself up to have that life right now? Or do you think the path you're walking isn't towards where you should be going? Think about what you need to do to get there and start doing it. Move into a better living situation, find a good church - heck quit your job if it's taking your happiness.
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
- 1 Corinthians 10:13
Don't be afraid that you'll be alone. I am here and so many others are too if you just reach out. Find faith and seek happiness because the Lord is waiting for you.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
- Proverbs 3:5-6
Let's be brave together and fight for the life we want. The life that God wants for us. It isn't going to be easy, but I promise you won't regret it.
